Big Data Influence on Marketing
Bob Ash (r) with Yuping Lui Thompkins, ODU Marketing Professor
The Program: Our guest speaker, Dr. Yuping Liu Thompkins from Old Dominion University, was introduced by our own rocket scientist Dr. Bob Ash. Dr. Thompkins is the professor and chair of the department of marketing. Her talk was about using big data in order to make intelligent marketing decisions. One of the statistics she pointed out was that by 2020 each of us will generate the equivalent of one floppy disc of information on ourselves per second. She is involved with analyzing that data and designing programs for businesses to use in their marketing departments. Evidently, she's proficient at doing that. too. It was a great presentation and if you weren't there you missed a good one. (Several of us thought that auditing her class might be fun, but we didn't have to take a test!)
The Meeting:
Notable happenings at the club were as follows: The estate of past President Joe Norton donated $1,000 to club endowment. (The Rotary spirit gets in your blood)
Marty Raiss has a sign up for the June 10 aviation museum outing.
And Carlisle Wroton was schilling the golf outing at Elizabeth Manor this coming Tuesday, (which postponed because of rain.)
The final event coming up is CLEAN the BAY DAY - Saturday June 3. Contact Jim Kitz to volunteer. It's a great event-. You can go out and get dirty and pick up trash down on Bay Street in Oceanview.

Visitation:
Both Bill Jonak and Eleanor Schoonover are under the weather.
It is with great sadness that the scribe reports the passing of our prior executive secretary Ellen Michel. Ellen was a lovely woman and she ushered many presidents through their term by keeping them on task and headed in the right direction. She will be missed.
Visitors: We had several visitors including Past District Governor Bill Pollard; Rebecca Willison (guest of Michelle Nettles), and Robert Fanelli (guest of Michael Desplaines). Clenise Platte our Area Governor introduced her replacement David Rosenthal. We had a visiting Rotarian from India (Shankar Sastry), who brought his family along because his daughter received a graduate degree from ODU-
Lisa Chandler opened the meeting with a very nice prayer called Reflection.
And finally, Sigur Whitaker led us in two rousing songs at the beginning of the club meeting with Pam Tubbs on the piano.
