District Governor Susan Zachensky-Walthall
District Governor Update

Our new Rotary District 7600 Governor, Susan Zachensky-Walthall, is a native of Alberta, Virginia. She graduated from Old Dominion University where she played 4 years of women’s basketball and was Captain of the team her last 2 years. She has worked for over 35 years as an instructor and Women’s Basketball Coach in Virginia at Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan University, Christopher Newport University where she was also Assistant Athletic Director, and Sonoma State University in California. During this time, she held many NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee positions such as a member of the NCAA Rules Committee and the Converse Coach of the Year Selection Committee. Susan is a Charter Member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. She is presently an instructor at Southside Virginia Community College.

 

DGE Susan’s Rotary career began in California where she was a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa for 10 years.  She served on the Board of Directors and was chair of numerous committees. Susan was selected as Rotarian of the Year 2000-2001. She also served District 5130 as a member of the District Sergeant at Arms Committee and as the 2003-2004 District Conference Commemorative Program Chair.  Susan was elected Club President for 2004-2005 but relocated to Virginia prior to starting her term.  She joined the Rotary Club of Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she has been a member for 13 years serving on various committees. In 2007 Susan was selected Rotarian of the Year.  She served as Club President and was awarded the District Governor’s Award as Outstanding Club President in 2009-10. She has been active at the District 7600 level as Rotaract Chair for three years, Conference Co-Chair, Chair of the Awards Committee and Chair of the 2015-16 District Conference. She served three years as an Area Governor and has had perfect attendance for 18 years.  She is a graduate of the Zone 33 Rotary Leadership Institute and is a Paul Harris Fellow +4.  Her husband, Zach, is also a Paul Harris Fellow.

Susan has been a popular speaker at Zone 33 events and four district conferences from Maryland to South Carolina sharing “My Rotary Story”

Susan and Zach, her husband of 31 years, live on Lake Gaston in Valentines, VA. In their free time they enjoy camping, walking, kayaking, gardening, reading, all the comforts of lake life, and spending time with family, and with fellow Rotarians.
