Literacy

The Literacy Committee works with The Literacy Partnership on Reading is Fundamental. For the 2012-2013 school year, we will be working with 6 elementary schools in Norfolk to read and donate books to the children in Pre-K - 2nd grade three times during the school year. Committee members will serve as either Rotary Coordinators or Rotary Back-Up Coordinators (Team Captains) for an assigned school and volunteer team. The volunteer teams are from the following area businesses: The Virginian Pilot, Dominion Enterprises, SunTrust Bank and Bank of America. As a Coordinator, the Rotarian is responsible for communicating with the school representative and the volunteer team for scheduled reading dates and to pick up and return the reading books from the committee chair. (The books which are donated to the school are handled by the Literacy Partnership).
