The Critical Juncture - COVID -19 Impact on the Future Health of our Community

Brief description of the session:

According to Mental Health America, nearly 390,000 people who have taken a Mental Health America screen since the start of the pandemic have screened at moderate-to-severe levels for anxiety and depression.  These numbers reflect the tip of a growing iceberg.  The presentation will describe the scope of mental health in the U.S. and how COVID-19, holidays and other circumstances in the country are impacting the mental well-being of people across all age groups.  There will be a brief discussion on how to recognize mental health struggles and what businesses, families and friends can do.

 Speaker:

Dr. Cynthia Romero serves as the Director of the M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health at Eastern Virginia Medical School.  In that role, she is working to improve the health of all people in Hampton Roads through collaborative educational, clinical care and research activities.  Three priority areas of the Brock Institute are mental health/substance abuse, maternal/child health and health disparities.
