Career Day
We Rotarians represent many types of businesses and professions. A great opportunity for Vocational Service in the community is to share our business or profession with a high school senior with a similar ambition. Each year, we match Rotarians with twenty-five seniors in the Norfolk Public Schools (five from each high school). The Rotarian meets with the student off campus for a lunchtime discussion of their vocation and a tour of their company or an appropriate facility that gives the student some “hands on” experience with this vocation. The visitation should take no more than three hours. The student then writes an essay to submit to their English teacher. All the students are invited to a March meeting of the Rotary Club to join with leaders of the Norfolk Public Schools. The top essays are read to the club and each winner receives a small scholarship.
