The Impact of Climate Change on Hampton Roads

Dr. Michael Allen joined the Department of Political Science and Geography at ODU as an Assistant Professor in 2014.  A Pittsburgh native, Michael earned his B.S. in Earth Science- Meteorology from California University of Pennsylvania.  Earning both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Geography from Kent State University, his research explores the intersection of weather and climate on human health particularly as it related to extreme temperatures, climate variability and change.  He has a number of peer-reviewed publications in journals including the International Journal of Biometeorology, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, and the International Journal of Climatology.  His research on seasonal climate change has also been highlighted by National Geographic Magazine.  A member of the Virginia Geographic Alliance, Dr. Allen serves on the Wetlands Watch Board of Directors and is affiliated with the ODU-Resilience Collaborative.
