In 2018, Norfolk Rotary Charities, the charitable arm of the Rotary Club of Norfolk,  extended 21 grants to local non-profit organizations totaling $36,295. Grants are provided by the generosity of Rotary Club members who support the club endowment and also contribute weekly to the club’s “congratulations and fines.”  The grant recipients are:
 
  • ACCESS College Foundation: Early College Awareness program supplies for at-risk middle schoolers
  • An Achievable Dream, Inc.: Flexible seating to enhance learning environment for at-risk Seatack Elementary School students
  • Chesapeake Bay Academy: Partial funding for equipment to help learning-disabled children
  • Dream Center of Hampton Roads: Underclothes, toiletries for homeless persons
  • Edmarc, Inc., dba/Edmarc Hospice for Children: Pediatric palliative care, grief/bereavement  services for family members 
  • Eggleston: Four (more) 8-ft benches (with Rotary logo) for program participants awaiting transportation
  • Girls on the Run®: Curriculum materials and supplies to allow 80 at-risk  girls to attend summer camp program
  • The Governor's School for the Arts Foundation: Camera, photographic printing/projection equipment supporting arts education
  • Lee's Friends: New toys for CHKD pediatric oncology unit
  • Mosaic Steel Orchestra: Additional instruments to expand program to more low-income youth
  • Mother Seton House: Computer hardware for mentor training program
  • Naro Expanded Video Archival Library: DVD/Blu-ray player, speakers,screen, cables for educational outreach 
  • Ocean View Little League Challenger Baseball: New bats, helmets that meet safety requirements; adaptive batting tee for wheelchair players
  • Park Place School: Middle school textbooks and supplies
  • Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center: 3 iPads & 3 iPods for motor skills development/memory stimulation for dementia patients
  • Project Light:  Computer hardware, software, manuals and curriculum materials for new program to help young/at-risk mothers teach their children how to read 
  • Salvation Army, Hampton Roads Command:  Replace broken burners on stovetop in Norfolk emergency men's shelter soup kitchen
  • Tidewater Arts Outreach: Replacement computer system
  • Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation: Canine and Feline skeleton models for new Veterinary Technology associate degree program starting this fall at the Virginia Beach campus
  • TWP—The Youth Movement [Teens With a Purpose]: Computer hardware, software for tutoring students; industrial blender, serving counter and stools for Teen Cafe
In 2017, Norfolk Rotary Charities has granted 14 non-profit organizations a total of $24,919 in Norfolk Rotary Charities grants in 2017. Grants are provided by the generosity of Rotary Club members who support the club endowment and also contribute weekly to the club’s “congratulations and fines.”
 
Recipients were:
  • Barrett Haven Inc. - 9 door knobs/bolts, shredder, 14 mini blinds, 4 security lights
  • Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation - supplies for care packages
  • Child and Family Services of Eastern VA d/b/a The Up Center – Early learning tools for their Parents are Teachers program.
  • Children's Assistive Technology Service - Funding for motorized wheelchairs and equipment.
  • Children's Harbor - Curriculum, staff training, supplies
  • DePaul Health Foundation - Purchase an industrial freezer for East Ocean View Healthy Community’s Storehouse Food pantry.
  • Eastern Virginia Medical School - 9.7 inch I-Pad pro 32 GB (2x); Case w. key board and smart pen (2X) and electronic testing materials to support the ADS Program
  • Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast - Electrical Wiring, light fixtures and ceiling fans for Camp Apasus
  • Granby High School Crew Team Booster Club - 14 ft. john boat to serve as a coaching/safety launch during practice
  • Hampton Roads Community Development Corporation - New computers for tutoring program.
  • Horizons Hampton Roads, Inc. - 3 sets of Lego Mindstorms EV3 Lego Robotics kits
  • Judeo-Christian Outreach Center – Support job interviews, medical & counseling appointments and housing
  • Ohef Sholom Temple - Commercially sized kitchen: food processor, pan rack, motion sensor lights to benefit the Soup Kitchen
  • Youth Outreach Urban Resources & Services (YOURS) - Laptop, wireless printer, TV, projector & cables to assist in workshop presentations and homework help sessions.
