Matthew Burnham with Norfolk Forensics will be talking to our club about a day in the life of his department, and then he will takes us through an actual investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of a local murderer, this will be an exciting meeting you won't want to miss.

Matthew graduated Longwood University with a dual major degree in Art Education K-12 and Physics.  He previously worked for Sentara Healthcare as a paramedic and joined the police department in 2005.  He also worked as a patrol officer in the second precinct until 2009 when I was transferred into the detective division.  He was shortly assigned to the forensic unit where I have been ever since.  During his time in the forensic unit he has attended the National Forensic Academy at the University of Tennessee which also hosts what is commonly referred to as the "Body Farm".  While  there, he attained the highest certification that one can hold in forensic science certification by the IAI as a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst of which there are only 4 other people in the state of Virginia.  Between 2009 and 2016 he was a field forensic investigator and would respond to the crime scenes on the street.  Recently this year he was moved over to the Latent Print laboratory at the police operations center as a latent print examiner.  He is also a Department of Criminal Justice certified general instructor, firearms instructor, and driving instructor.
